Early Orthodontic Treatment in New Paltz & Kerhonkson, NY - Dr. Pink Orthodontics

What it is

Some orthodontic issues are easier to fix while your child is still growing. Early treatment guides jaw growth, makes room for adult teeth, and helps break habits like thumb sucking. Dr. Pinkerous uses gentle tools like palatal expanders, space maintainers, and habit appliances, each chosen for your child's needs.

How it works

By treating crowding, jaw imbalances, or habits early, we can make room for permanent teeth and support a healthy bite. Appliances like expanders and space maintainers help adult teeth come in where they should.

  • Who might consider this treatment?

Kids around age 7 are ready for their first orthodontic check. Early care may help if your child has crowding, a crossbite, a narrow palate, uneven jaw growth, a thumb-sucking habit, or lost baby teeth early.

  • What is the typical experience?

Treatment is gentle and comfortable. After an exam, we may recommend a fixed or removable appliance based on your child's growth. Visits are short, and care at home is simple.

How it helps

Starting early can make future treatment simpler and shorter. Even if your child doesn't need treatment yet, an early visit lets us watch their growth and step in at the right time.

  • How long does it usually take?

Most early treatment lasts 6 to 12 months. A resting period often follows before braces or aligners, if they're needed later.

  • Is there anything to keep in mind?

Early treatment doesn't always replace braces later, but it can make them easier. Good brushing, regular check-ins, and a little help from parents go a long way.

  • What should I know about recovery after?

Most kids adjust quickly. They may feel mild pressure or notice small speech changes in the first few days. We'll give you clear care instructions and tips to keep things comfortable.
